Oh man, how I love that our blogs for this class are open ended! It is great to have a place to stop, and reflect on what is happening in my classroom, as well as what I am learning in the IL program. What I have found is that these two areas on my life go hand in hand!
I learn SO much in the IL program, that it can be overwhelming at times. I have an overflowing list to apps/sites to experiment with, and to eventually teach my students. I love learning new websites from my classmates, and thinking about how they might be applicable to my own students. In addition, our professors often share ideas they have, or actually have us get on to a site to try it out for ourselves. Again, each class leaves me with my head spinning, full of ideas, yet not enough time to do it! Do any of you have suggestions for how you are able to take new ideas and plan them for your own classroom? I get so excited, but overwhelmed at the same time.... Maybe just one day at a time? Or one app/site at a time?

Erin I totally agree with you that it can be overwhelming. At first I panicked when thinking of introducing everything into the classroom. Realistically it is not possible. Some of the tools we use would be fantastic for middle school students but would not be useful in my 4th grade classroom. I have decided to look at the tool and decide how I could introduce the concept and accept that if it does not work I have not failed. It could possibly work with a different group of 4th graders and it is something I know to share with my colleagues as they might find it useful.

I found that making the Personal Learning Plan in Rebecka's class was really helpful. It made me consider the steps that I need to take in order to understand one of the apps we are using in class more in depth. I am using e-readers for the first time this year. I requested to purchase an app, Storia, for the class and the district complied. I truly believe that this program can assist my struggling readers. It has so many functions that I can't even recall all that it does. But, I need to try them all and apply them to my students. The PLP was great reflection and I am doing other great things in the class that I love and the kids love and those projects remain.

When I was in the credential program and started teaching I was reflecting on a regular basis but over the years I have stopped. Self reflection is important for development and growth which I have rediscovered throughout this program. I have found it so helpful in fact I now have my students self-reflect on a regular basis and I am seeing student ownership and agency increasing. This is something I want to research further as student agency and ownership is my topic. Keep up the musing and thanks for sharing!
